For my second attempt

I don’t have any plan to climb this month of April because I want to earn money and I have still a hangover on my Cross Country Trek last holy week. But my buddies forced me to join with them and my money was not enough so I didn’t confirm yet if I'll join them. I have only Php1,000 left on my wallet, for 1 week they've tried convincing me but something bothered me what if there'll more important to use that money, where to get it, if I will spend my money left on my wallet. At the last minute they showed the actual expense it would only be less than 700 hundred so I decided to join them because I realized at the next day my pay day hahaha.

Mt. Cristobal

Day 1:
Our assembly time was 4:00 – 4:30 at the JAC Liner near Edsa Kamuning. It was already 5:00AM but sir King, niece of Ma’am Weng, was not there so we still waited for him at the terminal but according to his text to Ma’am Weng he was already at the terminal before 4:00AM hmmm something puzzled our mind maybe he is in the other terminal. We tried to call him but we can not contact his phone so we decided to leave him so that our itinerary will not be delay. After few hours while on the bus ride sir King report to Ma’am Weng he already there in San Pablo Laguna at the Jollibee Ma’am Weng gave an instruction that he will wait us in that area. Hahaha excited lang si Sir King.

Montelibano house "Registration area"

At 8:00AM we reached San Pablo Laguna, sir King, Kuya Lito our guide and the jeep were waiting for us at the Jollibee. Sir King explained to us why he was already there because he thought that the group he accompanied was also joining our group hahaha for me that was funny moment that I never encountered such thing since I started mountaineering.

At the Barangay Sta. Lucia, Dolores Quezon infront of the satellite where the jeep dropped us less than an hour we walked the steep concrete road going to registration area.

After we paid our registration fee and refilled our empty galloons, use as our water supply and use for our cooking and because Mt. Cristobal has no water source not like the neighboring mountain Mt. Banahaw has plenty of waters, actually the water supply from Barangay Sta. Lucia Dolores Quezon came from Mt. Banahaw according to the locals that live there.

Start of our trek

At 11:00AM started our trek and I can still remember the trail because it was my second time but Dolores trail would be my first and only this time we've done it traverse, we will exit to Tayak Hill Barangay Tala, Rizal Laguna.

The first time I went there the weather was not that good because of LPA (Low Pressure Area) but what we did was we push our plan because we don't want to cancel it luckily we did a successful climbed at Mt. Cristobal although we know that there's no any view at all so this time I'm eager to be back and to witness the magnificent view in Jones Peak.

Take our lunch

We found a good space at the trail and exact 12:00PM we decided and took our lunch for us to have energy again. We were so worried if we have a space for our tents because we knew there were already 3 groups ahead of us but our guide said don't be worry because there's a lots of space aside from the saddle camp. Past 3PM we reached the crater and the team decided not to camp in the Saddle camp because we don't want to be in a crowded place because there was no assurance if there still a space for us.

Mossy forest

Take 5... rest hahaha

New trail

Kiss the wall portion...

Take our rest before the crater

Crater of Mt. Cristobal

Flower seen on the mossy forest

Heading up to the campsite

Good decision what we did because the campsite we choose was very spacious kuya Lito as he said the campsite was not common to the other hikers but this is not advisable during raining days because of flood.

Preparing for our dinner my favorite sinigang damihan ng sabaw please....

Day 2:
I woke up early and unzipped the window of the tent the cool fresh air from the mossy forest blew on my face and the dew on the grass that can add coldness on the campsite that make you chill when you go outside the tent.

Disassembled our tents and prepared ourselves to our trek assault to the summit descending to barangay Tala. They name the peak as Jones Peak, when we reached the saddle camp we stationed for a few minutes because a huge group was ahead of us it is hard to be caught on the human traffic on the trail and it is too ashamed if will overtake the other hikers on the trail.

Saddle Camp

Assault to Jones Peak after the saddle camp

Jones peak
For the second time no views again :(

I felt disappointed when I saw the thick fog at the Jones peak once again no views at all this is one of the reason why I came back in Mt. Cristobal to see the magnificent view.

Descent from the Jones peak

Because of our disappointment that we didn't see the view at the peak we descent early luckily the trail was not slippery because according to our guide and other hikers experienced the traverse of Mt. Cristobal it’s too risky during rainy days because of the slippery trail. Exact 12:00PM we took our lunch at the trail because we can't wait to reach the registration area at the barangay Tala because we are all starving.

Rest and take our lunch

Touch down

Tayak Hill Cross
Locals in Laguna most commonly they call it 'Tilos' or 'Parang'.

Along the way of Rizal Laguna
"Sorry I forgot the name of the resort"

When we reached the village unfortunately there's no water available for us to wash up so we find another place good thing we found a resort we asked if we can only pay the entrance fee 50.00 with free cottage where can standby and rest, We took our early dinner at San Pablo and ate our favorite food the Bulalo.

Bulalo of San Pablo
Mamian sa Pugon(Along the Maharlika Highway near the bus stop or stoplight)

Group expenses:
1,500 - Guide fee
2,500 - rent jeep

Individual expenses
135.00 -  Bus fare from Cubao
  10.00 -  Registration fee
50.00 -  Entrance fee to resort (wash up)

How to get there:
-Ride a bus going to Lucena bound inform the driver/kondoktor drop you in San Pablo
JAC Liner - Terminal located in Kamias Quezon City and Buendia Avenue Pasay City
JAM Transit - Terminal: Kamias located in Quezon City and Buendia Avenue Pasay City

-At the San Pablo ride a jeep going to Dolores Quezon Market and ride again a trike going to barangay Sta Lucia or you can hire a jeep directly to barangay Sta. Lucia Dolores Quezon the fee is negotiable.

Note: The Public transport is not accessible in that place and even at the barangay Tala Rizal Laguna, for a large group much better rent a jeep.

Anonymous said...

Manong Unyol said...

yes sabhin nyo lang sa driver na ano oras kau makababa para matantsa nila ano oras sila andun. much better mag pag guide may kunting ligaw na sa baba for your own safety nadin kc madulas din ang trail ngayong tag ulan...

Anonymous said...

Manong Unyol said...

Manong Unyol said...

Anonymous said...

salamat ulit sa info sir, hehe pwde mu ba ituro ung campsite na pinunthan nyo ng guide? bka d n kmi kumuha ng guide, konte lng kmi eh tnx

Anonymous said...

sir last n lng ehehe, mauuna b ung tago n campsite bago ung saddle camp? tska kya b traverse sa tala khit wla guide? nung nagtraverse kc kmi last 2010 dapat nagcarlan side kmi lalabas, napunta kmi s san pablo ehehe tnx

Manong Unyol said...

Manong Unyol said...

Anonymous said...

ahaha ayaw ko na sumugal ulit, ung ligaw n part dun kung tama ung pagkakatanda ko ung tinatawag nila na green mountain, dun n nwala ung establish n trail tska ung mga trail marks, puro mataas na talahib n lng ndaanan nmin, 3x nmin hinanap pro wla n kmi mkita tlga kya gnawa n lng nmin basta pababa ayun n lng daanan ahaha tnx sa mga info sir,

Manong Unyol said...

walang ano man sir join nalang kau sa ibang group na pwede nyong samahan sa traverse nyo para ambagan nalang kau sa pag rent nyo ng sasakyan if gusto nyo mag traverse.. wala kc masakyan bihira lang poro rent pa ata.
