Ristorante delle Mitre, this restaurant was featured in channel 2 a negosyo morning show every Saturdays and Sundays entitled “Kabuhayang swak na swak”. It is an entrepreneurial and informative show currently hosted by Bobby Yan and Dimples Romana, unfortunately I wasn’t able to watch the full coverage of the show only a glimpsed, and while interviewing the owner Elvira Go she mentioned that the place is very solemn, no wi-fi so that the customers will not standby for a long time and affordable prices of foods. I planned to visit it soon because looks very interesting to share to others what would be my experience in that restaurant because aside from hiking and traveling now I’m searching an authentic and unique restaurant around
After an exhausting walked tour around at the
National Museum, I suggested to Jun to take our lunch at Ristorante delle Mitre in Intramuros located across the San Agustin church first floor of CBCP (Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines) building. We are hesitant to get inside the restaurant because it looks first class restaurant and we were surprised because majority of the costumers are foreigners and I think Jun and I were the only Pinoy costumers that time. We don’t have any choice but to take our seats and have our order from menu book. In the pricelist, what we saw were the prices that were so affordable. Lots of dish to choose from, even the ordinary people can afford it.
La mitra (plural in Italian is le mitre) is the bishop’s hat or miter which he wears at liturgical celebrations. It used to be the prerogative only of the pope as symbol of his office as Pontiff, or high priest, until it was extended to some prelates and later to all Bishops.
Symbocally, it recalls the head-dress the lord instructed to make for the sons of Aaron to give dignity and magnificence (cf.Ex 28:40). It therefore indicates the fullness of the priesthood which the Bishop participates in Jesus Christ.
Its influenced is the Catholicism you will notice inside the restaurant the photos of bishops hang on the wall and images of Saints, you will also notice the life-size statue. Indeed a quiet ambiance which the restaurant will be offer to the costumers.
Menu we chose
What we noticed was that there are names of Bishops from the menu book and we chose Asian cuisine. After we ordered I saw a missionary sister alone at the other side wrapping a “polvoron” and I asked permission to her that I will take pictures inside the restaurant and I explained to her that we will use those for our documentations, fortunately she gave us permission. And it’s my chance to ask questions to her regarding about the restaurant, and the first thing I asked was why there’s a names of Bishop at the menu? She explained to me that was the respective bishops’ favorite dish. And my second question was if it is true if the restaurant have deaf and mute employees? Yes she confirmed that the restaurant other employees have disability. She also mentioned that the restaurant started as a coffee shop.
Ristorante delle mitre is a place for bishops to dine. But too must feed their flock so is everyone invited to partake of the lord’s bounty. A place for dining and relaxation after a days toil. Ristorante delle mitre is conceived as an outreach program of the Catholic Bishops’ conference.
