Monday morning I felt bored and sleepy on my workstation in our office, I realized parang nabitin ako sa gala last weekend, I messaged my buddy Weng tara gala tayo nitong parating na weekend as she replied sige Minalungao tayo hmmm sounds like my surname MINA hmmm. I asked again, where to find that place? Nueva Ecija. I searched it on Google if it is true and I found out that I also commented Pinas Muna blog about their article of Minalungao haist ang ulyanin ko talaga.

I texted immediately my buddy Weng to create an event and invite all our close friends and this is first of her adventure of the year 2014, I do research and print all possible tourist destination in Nueva Ecija so we have an option after we visited Minalungao. Sayang naman kasi ang lakad kung iisang destination lang ang pupuntahan.

We leave from Five Star terminal Cubao at 4:45AM and we arrived in Gapan Nueva Ecija at 6:30AM, almost 2hours of travel time. Because we were too early in Gapan we decided to find a carinderia fortunately we saw a stall offering Unli Lugaw the good thing is very cheap for only 10.00 hahaha sakto sa mga nagtitipid pantawid gutom. At Gapan Nueva Ecija near the trike terminal we rode a jeep going to Papaya Gen. Tinio the fare was 23.00 each, 45minutes of travel.

Public Market

At 8:45AM we arrived in Papaya Municipal Mall from there we bought foods for our lunch because we want to make sure that we have foods for our lunch because we don’t have any idea about the place. The owner of the carinderia where we bought our foods, she narrated a weird story about Minalungao as she said every year there are drowning incident but majority of the victims were those who were drunk. They have also superstitions that we need to bring salt and garlic and put it on our pocket against environmental spirits for short “Engkanto” wala naman mawawala kung susundin hahaha. I think that was a good tip she gave to our group, we need to be careful all the time.

Long rough road

At the town proper of Papaya we hired a trike for roundtrip because according to him there’s no public vehicle in Minalungao going back to Papaya he dealt with our group we will pay 400.00 after we explore the place, and he will be our guide. Expect a long rough road going to Minalungao but there were other parts of the road that is cemented.

River crossing shallow part

Near the river there are cottages that you can rent for the whole day and if you to want try more exciting and adventurous you can use the bamboo raft to cross the deep part of the river or you can swim it’s your choice but only for good swimmer because it has strong water current, but for us who are not good swimmer we chose to cross the river on the shallow part by our foot and to feel the cold water and I was amazed with the bluish color on the deep part and it is tempting but unfortunately I’m not a swimmer.

Stairs going to the Cross

Before the Cross

View deck

The first part we visited the Cross we hiked for about more than 30minutes going up to the 1,000 steps paved stairs to reach the Cross (but according to BPs lead only 947 steps) and we witnessed the splendid view of Nueva Ecija and also the Sierra Madre range at the view deck.

Minalungao National Park is a protected area of the Philippines located in the municipality of General Tinio Nueva Ecija in Central Luzon. The park covers an area of 2,018 hectares centered along the scenic PeƱaranda River bordered on both sides by up to 16-meter high limestone walls in the foothills of the Sierra Madre mountain range.

PeƱaranda River

The place features the breathtaking view. At the end of the white rock formation is an enchanting cave that is perfect for hiking activities; make sure use an appropriate gears because of the slippery and huge sharp rocks on the foot of the hill going to the cave. The cave located at the foot of Minalungao Hill, the cave's rock formation is composed of limestones and marbles which are dotted with tiny and shallow holes, evidence of dissolving reaction from the continuous dripping of rain water during wet season.
